Windows Draw 6 by Micrografx support and help - abandonware

Software is a funny thing. You get used to using something and you never move on. Such is the case with me and Windows Draw by Micrografx. Somehow I started using it in the late 1990s, probably 1996, and have used it ever since as my drawing program. I've look at newer programs like Corel Draw, but they are tougher to use. Windows Draw is a simple program, easy to use and does what I need. The problem is it's no longer made. What I am saying? Windows Draw isn't even supported anymore.

Micrografx was bought by Sierra, which then sold the program to Corel. Corel has long since ceased any development of the program and now Micrografx Windows Draw is abandonware. Luckily, I still have my original CDs dated 1996 and they install fine under Windows XP.

Today I had a mini-panic episode. When Doom 3 came out I bought a new PC and of course I didn't move all the programs over. Today I needed to create a graphic, but I couldn't find the Windows Draw CDs. I hunted all over and an hour after the search began my wife found them. Gotta love the wife. During my search I looked on the internet to see if I could find someone who had the originals for download. No one had them, but I did come across some great resources.

The first site I came across was a forum post talking about support issues with Windows Draw. They detailed how to install, where to find patches and more. There are three patches for Windows Draw that are important. The first is fix60.exe, which allows people who experience a time limit bug to get around it. The second is wd6updat.exe, which addresses some minor bug issues. The last one is wdrawdll.exe, which replaces one of the core DLLs. The ironic thing is that these are located on a Sierra FTP site.

The second site I came across was on About.com and is titled Windows Draw User Resources. The author has put together a list of places to find help and to discuss the program. She also lets you know about other draw programs that might take the place of Windows Draw. I tried a few and they don't live up to the ease of use.

If you check on eBay you can find a few copies of the program for sale, but don't count on any official support. I've since made triplicate copies of the CD in case I lose them again.

Someone just stole my copy of Micrografx Webtricity with Picture Publisher 8, Draw 6, Simply 3d 3, and media manager.If anyone anywhere has a copy for sale or knows where to dl it please, please e-mail me. wolf@845ny.com . I tried a copy load but can't get it to work even after copying all the dll's one at a time as it asked for them. I'm really, furious about this loss as I've had this cd since 98/99 and absolutely love the programs.

I used to have a copy of Micrografx Draw on a 'Computer Buyer' magazine a looong time ago (maybe 1996)... I think it was the same version we were using at school at the time, could have been 16bit for all I know... Mysteriously the computer buyer CD vanished years later and I have been wanting to use it ever since! i have the original on disc and still use it regularly to this day. It is an impressive draw program with ease of use of versatility. I have taught my kids how to use it too. If you want a copy of my disc I would be happy to send one to you.

Micrografx Draw 6

I have been using Draw 6 in my business for several years and have a alot of dwg files. I like the program but need to move onto something that is supported.
Does anybody know if there is other draw programs that well read a dwg file.

Hi, I fell in love with the Micrografx Windows Draw 6 and actually made a copy of it too. During my move, I lost the original, and was meaning to make a copy of the copy. However, now I lost the copy!!! How can I get another copy or original? I'm a teacher and I use it all the time!!!! I have it installed on my computer, but what you can do that way is limited. I really love this user friendly version and don't even want to try any other. I did look on ebay, and it's not the same version. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount for even a copy. Thanks!!!

Windows Draw 6

Under Windows Draw directory, search for eg windows draw exe file,
right click, follow by properties,under Compatiblity tab,
Comaptiblity mode, select Run this program in
compatibility mode "Windows 98"

Hope this can work for you as Micgrafx Windows Draw 6
design to run in Windows 95/98.

For Micrografx Windows Draw 5, I have no issue in setup
in Windows XP.

I was a developer/lead for Windows Draw 5 , 6, and 7. It was a sad day when it was sold to Sierra and then eventually shut down. I might be able to dig up a copy of Draw 6 if you drop me an e-mail.
