What are the best sites at getting traffic

The web metrics site, Compete, recently released their top 20 sites for internet traffic for October 2006. It's an amazing look at the amount of traffic that the sites generate. There are also a number of neat conclusions you can make about the following chart (The graph is the property of compete.com):

Here are the things that amaze me about this:

Yahoo rocks. They have a great traffic lead over Google. It's funny how everyone thinks Google owns the internet when really it's Yahoo.

eBay really owns the internet marketplace. You would think a large company like Wal-Mart would be higher than eBay, but it's not so.

about.com is huge. I had no idea they pulled in that much traffic. It'd be great to drill into which sections of about.com pull int he most traffic.

Wikipedia is lower than I thought. Based on the rankings they get in all search engines, I thought it'd be higher. Still, for a site that is completely ad free and relies on volunteers to maintain it, it's amazing.

ask.com is shark bait. You Tube should pass them soon, which puts the number four search engine out of the game.

go.com is still alive. Where does all the go.com traffic come from? I have no idea.

It's amazing to think that world wide Yahoo generated only 120 million unique hits. One would think this would be higher. Thanks to compete.com for providing these details.
