University of South Florida Goes Blog Crazy - Bringing RSS to your organization
The University of South Florida located in Tampa, Florida has developed a system so that all users of their email system can easily open their own blog. The system is based on WordPress and includes a built in photo manager. What kind of benefits will this bring to their campus?
The power of RSS is defined by syndication. Syndication allows you to easily share information among groups of people, but here's the key, the people receiving the information can choose to use it in the way they see fit.
It brings the power of information to the person.
When large organization adopt a blog method of sharing information they get RSS. And with RSS they get these RSS benefits:
- Automatic updates: Updates to information people need is handled automatically. People don't need to remember to go look for information as they set it and forget it. Not only does this help for things like reminders, but also for subject specific information.
- Clarity: People can subscribe to those feeds that meet their needs. It helps with the information overload by allowing people to control what information they want to receive.
- Fosters collaboration: Because the information is shared among a group people have a chance to add their own input. This is especially critical in development and support arenas.
- Easy archives: With feeds the information becomes permanent in a distributed fashion. Each person can archive the information they feel is best suited to their needs.
Congratulations to the University of South Florida for jumping on the RSS bandwagon.
