What happens to your online presence when you die

Cleaning out the bookmarks and today's look is of Russell Shaw's bookmark list . Russell Shaw was a columnist and author covering the online industry, VOIP lately, and he died in March of 2008. I didn't know Russell , nor did I really know any of his work . I have no idea why I loaded and kept his bookmarks around. Maybe it was due to his Web 1.0 method handling bookmarks. While many of us have moved to online bookmark managers, Russell kept his in a simple HTML list in alphabetical order. It wasn't a simple bookmark dump from a browser, as he annotated all his links like so:

Is the corporate IT department dead

Nicholas Carr is a bold author who takes a long term view of the world. He published a book last year entitled, "he Big Switch" that runs through moving from a local based computing model to a cloud based computing model. During this switch IT departments will be reduced drastically as the support processes move behind the scenes. As someone who provides corporate IT support this is an eye opening statement.

Before I list some reasons why I don't think the corporate IT groups should go on the endangered species list, I need to let you know I am huge cloud supporter. Back in the day I was involved in testing the first cluster applications for NT when Digital released them for their Alpha boxes. I saw the future. When the web hit I was a huge proponent on moving as many applications as possible onto web servers. The savings in resources were fantastic and the reliability increased.

How to make money with your blog

The first one on the list is a blog money making article from InsideCRM. The article was published in December of last year, which means it's been sitting in my tabs for a year.

Anyway, the article lays out 101 ways you can make money with your blog. Everything from the standard adsense to direct ad sales is covered.

How cool would it be to review the trends in technology and issue research on it? Very cool job.

They released a new report on the top ten technologies for 2009. Here's their list:

Seth Godin is the master of motivation

In Seth's piece he takes it a step further and very cleverly gets people to think about the effort they put towards things. While some of Seth's pieces int he past have been, well, part of lala land, this one is actually right.
