Movable Type SucksSubmitted by Patrick Grote on Fri, 04/02/2004 - 2:40pm.
This according to a poster at Kuro5hin. The author says Movable Type must die. While I am sure this was written mainly tounge in cheek, it does raise a couple of interesting points: 1) Is Movable Type a robust application? Based on Perl, Movable Type regenerates each page when changes are made to the template. This was one of the things that actually attracted to me to MT as I am assured of normal, search engine friendly URLs. Looking into it further, it looks like the author shows one example of poor Movable Type performance. Before I selected Movable Type as my poor man's CMS, I did my own research. I realized the older versions of MT had issues, but not the newer ones. I even found performance tuning for Movable Type. 2) Does Movable Type hurt Google? This issue is the one that concerned me the most. Everyone who cares about traffic knows that Google is king. The Register called this blog noise. Add to this that Blogger is now owned by Google and I think there is a chance for further issues. The problem with this thought process is that Google has shown it's ability to adapt in the past. If they feel this is an issue they'll fix it through filters or tweaks to the algo they use. All in all, MT is a very nice solution for self-publishing.
