How close are we to migrating to IPv6?Submitted by Patrick Grote on Fri, 11/10/2006 - 2:28pm.
One of Cringley's columns on IPv6 has me thinking ... how close are we to migrating to IPv6? Has your company started looking into what it's going to take to make the move? I know we have on the surface, but corporate wide I don't think there are any initiatives. The biggest issue I see is the static IP address for everything. At home five of my devices have static IPs and it's helped me immensely. But, I also use NAT to put other things on the internet, things I don't want folks to see. If a mandated migration is upcoming I would hope NAT could continue in some form. While it would be great to have, say, my refrigerator on the internet, I don't know if I want people port scanning to see we're low on milk.
