Downtown Chesterfield construction is underway

If you're not from the St. Louis area, this post may bore you. Chesterfield is a city in St. Louis County that was once considered god's country, as it sat in the far west of St. Louis County. It's grown up since the 1980s, and it's now the second largest city in St. Louis County.

The city has always been known for the Chesterfield Mall. It was a super mall before super malls existed and drew thousands of people from the entire St. Louis area. Who knew that it was the first piece of a major development plan?

According to Sachs Properties, the developers of Downtown Chesterfield, the mall was the first step in their overall plan:

The year is 1976 and the ad in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch begins:"Perhaps you've wondered why we put a major shopping center in the middle of a field."

It then explains: "Because Chesterfield Mall wasn't built as an end in itself. In a few years, it will be in the middle of town. It is the beginning of Chesterfield Village."

So began the 1,500-acre master-planned community in Chesterfield, Missouri that today is widely regarded as the economic and cultural heart of West St. Louis County, Missouri.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch recently had an article explaining the future of the development and it's very exciting. The chairman of the company, Louis Sachs, had this said about him:

...he was building apartment buildings. Each time he started a project, someone would come along and building something close by or across the street that he found objectionable. With Chesterfield Village he wanted to build something he could have complete control over.

This is an incredible development for the metro area and will surely become a high end development. I'll have some photos of the construction as time moves on.
