3.5 Mixed Worst Tennis Outing Ever
Wow. This was by far the worst tennis I have ever played. Nothing went well. I couldn't get on a roll and it seemed everything I tried failed. As I told Missy, it was the only time I've considered not playing anymore; it was just that unenjoyable. Don't get me wrong, some of my more enjoyable times have been when I lost. I learn things, I have good interactions with opponents and more. There was none of that. Maybe it was the fact it was Friday, January 13, 2012 that did it.
My teammates were Allen and Kathy and we played against Bob, Michael and Julie. Michael was running late, so Allen started against Bob in singles. He won the first game and fought Bob hard. I came in at 2-4 on serve. I went to 3-0 in both games before losing each. Simple as that it was over. Bob is a good player, but both Allen and I match up against him favorably. We just beat ourselves.
Michael finally arrived, so we went straight to doubles. It was 0-4 in a blink of an eye. Allen and I have played doubles together before since we're in this league as teammates, so we're used to each other. Heck, we're played tournaments together. Both of us were playing awful. Horrendous. He was hitting them long and into the net, while I was failing to hit them. They would squid of my racket, get trapped on the ground or bounce hopelessly out.
We lost doubles 6-1.
Mixed didn't go that much better, though we did manage to win three games against Julie and Bob. Julie has awesome control and can hit it where you aren't with pace. Bob did a very good job of running things down. My partner, Kathy, had some trouble with the net, but it wasn't meant to be. I did make a very good shot to get one of Julie's lasers to the outside. I ran into the wall to get it. The cement wall.
What I did well:
- I showed up. Yep, that's it.
What I didn't do well:
- Everything. It was just an awful night of tennis.
Gotta move on. I do think I am at the point where I may have over committed on how much I play tennis. My goal is to have fun first and improve second.
