I am a law and order type of guy. A take responsibility for your actions fellow. Larry Richard Goings is sitting in a jail cell for a probation problem. Sounds good, right? Well, considering it is a 36 year old violation I am thinking we can let it go.
The Post Dispatch did a great job running down the details of the case and it is a shame that public officials cannot act of this right away.
Here is all you need to know:
- Larry Richard Goings committed the crime. He admitted to it in court.
- He was sentenced to 5 years probation.
- He completed a drug rehab program and met with probation officials.
- He sought permission to move to Ohio, which was granted.
- No record exists of his probation transfer, so St. Louis County declared him a fugitive.
For argument’s sake, we can say Goings ducked out and went on the run. Alright. Sounds good. 36 years later we’re holding him accountable? Really? For a crime he plead guilty to? For a life well lived after the system lost track of him?
Sensible people should make sensible decisions. The judge is giving the attorneys in the case some time to verify Goings’ story. Let’s hope it turns out to be the truth.
An update. He received probation … again. Still in jail.
A Toronto man who has been in jail for nearly four months on a 1975 arrest warrant out of St. Louis County will have to spend four more months behind bars and then three years on probation.
