There are a few things in my life that totally relax me and enable me to feel free. Road bike riding is one of them.
Before I continue, I am not the guy that dresses in bike jerseys with the tight pants and speaks all the lingo. Nada. I bought a Diamondback Comfort bike like this one. I dress in shorts, compression shirt and tshirt. Nothing flashy.
What I am all about is the miles through the local cities and county. I love taking off in the morning and spending 3-5 hours riding. It is like God invented bike riding just for me.
When I owned a Blackberry, I was disheartened that my carrier (Verizon) didn’t enable the GPS on it. So, when I jumped to the iPhone I was pumped I could start tracking my rides.
Survive any disaster in your own home. Prepare now. A must for the coming problems in the world!Choosing the right tracking app is tough, though. There are so many choices, but I settled on Everytrail for the following reasons:
Allowed Photos: I am an attention whore, so I like taking pictures along the way to share.
Sharing: Again with the attention whore, I like sending out my rides to others for their input.
Stopping, pausing, restarting: These were critical since I like to stop during the ride to visit stores, etc.
Everytrail comes in a free flavor or a paid one. The difference is ads, but I look at it when you pay, you support their development efforts. It costs $3.99 and is worth every penny.
At the end of your ride, Everytrail compiles all your information: route, waypoints, pictures and sends them up to the main server. You can then publish the results like this:
First Trip of 2011 – Kirkwood to Chesterfield to Kirkwood
The above was my first ride of 2011.
