McDonalds released their April results and it showed a 6% sales increase among stores open for a year or more. Actually, it is 13 months, but a year sounds better. These results exceeded expectations.
Many experts have chalked up McDonalds recent success to the following factors:
- The economy – McDonalds has held firm on prices.
- McCafe – The special drinks category.
- Remodeling Restaurants – Changing the look and feel .
I don’t drink coffee, so I cannot comment on the McCafe items. They look nice and all, but I prefer soda as the caffeine delivery method.
The dollar menu at McDonalds is incredible. I’ve said before that the side salad is the best deal in fast food. McDonalds continues to deliver value. The best example of this is their McDouble transformation. They used to have double cheeseburgers on the dollar menu, but they tweaked it slightly to the McDouble, which is just a double cheeseburger with one less slice of cheese.
The remodeling is of interest to me as long as they don’t remove the free wifi and still have a place for kids to play.
USA Today did a great video of the changes.
