Can blekko challenge google for search

can-blekko-challenge-google-for-search-photoGoogle owns upwards of 80% of the search market if you believe some press reports. There is a challenger on the search front that isn’t Bing. It does begin with a B and is Blekko.

According to a NY Times story, Blekko isn’t looking to replace Google. According to the story they are looking to find a subset of the data.

His idea is to concentrate the search. Only a relatively small number of the Web’s total pages are visited — in the tens of millions rather than in the hundreds of billions. In his view, it should be possible to simplify a search engine so it could satisfy a vast majority of searchers.

Interesting. Limit the number of pages to the ones that matter most. Of course, it is someone’s opinion on what matters most or has the most authority. Still, if it can somehow be pulled off it’ll be amazing.

I checked my name and sites in Blekko. My comments:

  • Vanity search worked ok for the first couple of results, but after that they trailed off.
  • My sites haven’t been crawled in more than a year. I don’t know if it is due to their beta status or what.
  • Loved the SEO pages. It showed the domains that are duplicating my content, though not the specific pages.
Survive any disaster in your own home. Prepare now. A must for the coming problems in the world!

Blekko could work out well, but we’ll just just have to wait and see.
