John Dvorak called the apple move to intel chips – lotto numbers and porn next?
John Dvorak nailed the recent announcement of Apple moving to Intel chips. As earlier as 2001, John Dvorak was progansticating the move. In a series of articles he laid out the plan and many people laughed at him. Will John take a stab at the lotto numbers next?
In an article dated March 6, 2001, John Dvorak said:
"If Apple could move off the PowerPC chips, it could rock. First, it would be a marketing plus to have clock speeds at the gigahertz level. More important, the move would give Apple some much-needed leverage over Microsoft. While a Mac OS running on AMD chips could be made proprietary to Apple hardware, it wouldn't take much more than a fix to go after the entire spectrum of Windows users.
I can't say that Apple has the gumption to pull off such a coup. We'll see. But the fact that Jobs called the Mac a PC may be a clue."
Interesting. John picked up on the fact that Steve Jobs referred to the Macintosh as a PC. Based on news reports this week that Steve Jobs said that the Mac OS has been running on Intel chips for the last five years, this piece falls into place.
Again, in an article dated April 7, 2003, John Dvorak said:
Phase three. Late 2004 or sometime in 2005: Just as Apple's new OS begins to populate the x86 market, Apple rolls out its own x86 machine.
Although John said Apple would license the Mac OS, he got the hardware part right.
It's not usual that prognostication like this is shown to be right. Some subscribe to the theory that if you throw enough on the wall, something will stick. But this is a subject John Dvorak has been hammering for close to five years and he was right. Kudos.
