Microsoft commits to battle for Web 2.0 supremacy

Bill Gates and Ray Ozzie have thrown down the gauntlet and are moving the ship to go after the Web 2.0 mindshare. Thanks to Dave Winer of Scripting News, you can read the Gates' memo that lays out the strategy, and the Ozzie memo that lays out the battle plan.

Can Microsoft pull this off? What form will it take?

At this late hour the best thing I can come up with is the Lan Manager vs. Novell Netware battles in the late 80s/early 90s. I'll elaborate more in the morning, but it looks like real competition is coming to future computing arenas.
